Amy Nielsen

My name is Amy Nielsen.

Bio: I have been teaching at Alden-Conger at different grade levels since the fall of 1998. I started as a substitute and never left! I began as a substitute and moved to part-time teacher & part-time para for a couple years. Since full-time teaching, I have taught 2nd, kgtn PE, 4th Social, 5/6 ELA.  The last 17 years have been in 6th grade ELA & MN History. I am in the process of moving to 2nd grade again for the fall of 2025! I am excited about this change but will miss my middle schoolers.

I was born and raised in Albert Lea. My family includes my children, Lillie & Brennan.  I also have a granddaughter named Freya. Lillie is a 6th grade science teacher at Southwest Middle School and lives in Alden. Brennan is in his senior year at Waldorf majoring in Psychology & Criminal Justice. Most of you probably know him as “SHREK” fromthe musical. Freya will be starting preschool here in the fall. In my free time, I enjoy taking walks, reading, sitting by my pool and being with family & friends. Concerts and sporting events are some of the activities I enjoy attending. I’m a huge country fan! I am a dog lover. I have 3 Golden Retrievers. I try to spend most of my free time with Freya, watching her learn & grow!

EDUCATION: I have been teaching at Alden-Conger in different grade levels since the fall 1998.  I am a graduate of Albert Lea High School.  I have an Associate of Arts degree from Austin Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with Early Childhood (Prek-6) from Mankato State University, and a Master's of Education from St. Catherine University.
