Ideas for Volunteer Hours
The following ideas would be acceptable hours for the Service for Credit Option
- Reading to or assisting to the elderly at their homes
- Volunteering for church projects
- Volunteering time at a nursing home or ather care facility
- Cleaning ditches along highways
- Volunteering at local museums or similar cemters ( Audubon Science Center, for example )
- Assisting in a hospital, shelter, soup kitchen, day care center, ect.
- Volunteering at blood drives
- Big Brother/Big Sister programs
- Volunteering to help coach younger children ( community ed programs, for example )
- Volunteering camp counselor ( day camp, VBS, ect )
- Volunteering for community organizations such as Salvation Arm, area food shelves, library, RSVP, mentorconnection, Habitat for Humanity, CVCC, CRT, ect.
- Up to 15 hours of Mission Trip work
- After school programs or homework helper/mentoring
- Peer tutoring in a clasroom fo no credit
- Other services or activities pre-approved by Alden-Conger
The following ideas would not be acceptable for the Service for Credit Option:
- Doing chores at home
- Attending church or Sunday School District Babysitting for a younger sibling
- Working on the family farm
- Completing ANY task which you recive money $$$
- Doing extra credit homework
- Participating in extracurricular activities
- Court-orderedcommunity servce hours
- Service assigned as a disiplinary action
- Visiting an elderly relative with your family
- Minor acts of kindness (holding door open, ect...)
- Working for a PROFIT organization for free
- Activities done for a parent or a relative
- service hours required for another organization, club, class, ect (for example: NHS, confirmation, Student Council, 4-H, FFA, or scouts)
**Students can use up to 3 different experences to total the 30 hours required for credit. Experiences that occur within the same organization, but at different times, will count as one.
