Click Down To Band Materials

The Alden-Conger Music program includes Middle School Band, High School Band, Jazz Ensemble, Pep Band, Marching Band, Middle School Choir, and High School Choir. In all ensembles, emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals of music and performance. Students are expected to show proper care and maintenance of instruments and other materials.

Middle School Concert Band(grades 6-8)
This ensemble meets Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday during seventh period. They will perform in several concerts and community events throughout the year. Students are required to perform in the marching and pep bandsduring the school year and smmer. In addition to furthering technical facility as individual musicians, great emphasis is placed on creating a unified musical expression by the entire ensemble. A variety of erpertoire will be explored, in a ddition to relevant theoretical and historical ceomcepts and information. Students will be held responsible for information given in class via plaing tests and written quizzes.

High School Symphonic Band (grades 9-12)
This ensemble rehearses Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday during sixth period. They will perform in several concerts and community events throughout the year. Students in this band and required to participate in the marching and pep bands during the school year and summer. In addition to furthering technical facility as individual musicians, great emphasis is placed on creating a unified musical expression by the entire ensemble. A variety of repertoire will be explored, in addition to relevant theoretical and historical concepts and information. Students will be held responsible for information given in class via playing tests and written quizzes.

Jazz Ensemble
Jazz ensemble is open to any students interested and meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 - 8:27 A.M. in the band room. Students will perform at the band concerts and possible one or two outside concerts in other schools or communities. They might also have the opportunity to work with clinicians or attend a jazz festival.

Marching and Pep Band (6-12)
This band is required of all students in grades 6-12. This group will perform halftime shows at some home football games and will march in parades throughout the year. Some parades may include the Memorial Day parade and Morin Lake Days Parade. The pep band performs at such sporting events as home football games, volleyball matches, girls and boys basketball games. This band also may travel when a team progresses to the play-offs.

Rehearsal Expectations
1. Be punctual.
2. Bring all necessary materials to class each day.
3. Respect all people, equipment, and music.
4. Contribute positively during class.
5. Participate and owrk as a team to achieve goals.
6. Be positive.

Perfomance Expectations
1. Be on time and come prepared.
2. Help with set-up and tear-down.
3. Listen to follow instructions.
4. Perform to the best of your ability.
5. Follow all performance etiquette guidelines. Be professional.

Lesson Expectations
1. Be on time. It is YOUR responsibility to schedule a make-up lesson if you miss.
2. Bring all required materials (instrument, music, pencil, assignment book).
3. Come prepared to your lesson. If you have not practiced your lesson materials and do not come prepared, your grade will be reduced by an appropriate amount determined by you and the director.


Band Materials Needed

All band students need:
--Lesson Book
--Assignment Notebook
--2 Pencils
--Band Music
--Istrument and Mouthpiece (if needed)
--Folder

These items need to be with the student at every rehearsal to earn full daily points. The lists below are specific instrument lists:

Flute: swab, cleaning rod, polishing cloth

Oboe/Bassoon: 3 working reeds, reed case, water cotainer, cork grease, swab

Clariet/Saxophone: 4 working reeds, reed case, cork grease, swab

Trumpet/Baritone/Tuba: valve oil, slide cream

F Horn: rotary valve oil, slide grease

Trombone: slide cream, water bottle

Percussionists: set of 5A drum sticks, practice pad
